What causes a flywheel to be bad in a 1998
eclipse 2.0

Ok this is an automatic with fairly low miles if I replace the flywheel should I replace the pressure plate also and what would cause the flywheel to be bad

you have a flex plate!!!! if an auto and no pressure plate....hello

if you have a flywheel replace the pressure platr and disk..and have the flywheel turned...

The flexplate (some wrongfully call it a flywheel on an automatic) can be damaged by cracking or the starter ring gear teeth being chewed up by the starter. It's 18 years old so things are going to start giving out.
