my gess is that the motor is probly shot sorry to say or it dosent have any enough oil
If so how many miles?
If its over head cam could possibly be the Hydualic lifters. Mitsubishis lifters tend knock with age. Stock ones have smaller oil channels that tend to get stopped up. If this is the issue doing a sea foam treatment on your oil could help for awhile but I would make plans to replace them soon. Hope this helps
First off the Eclipse didnt have a 3.0L till 2000 model year, they all had the 420A 2.0L DOHC with or without turbo's. If you hear it from the lower end it's probably a rod bearing, and if it is noticeable from the upper end more than likely a lifter or rocker. There isn't too many Eclipses or Talons that havent been abused horribly left.
chris your right just wanna add if its a gst or gsx it would have the 4g63 but other than that you nailed it man
Right on Ryan, my bad everybody wants help on here but if you cant hear it how the hell do you help em out.
for sure man i own a 95 talon 5speed and a 98 eclipse both 420a cars the chick i got the eclipse from ran a turbo with stock internals and and fucked the head so thats gonna be the 4g63t car :) but im happy with em both both have the 5 speed so im all set might be getting a 97 gst when i get a job so fingers crossed lol
Ahhhh. I miss the 80's and 90's Mopars an Mitsubishi's the last true in my mind turbo cars.
yea with the new cars only ones id take would be a evo
try to put in some restore the next time you change your oil i have a 2000 eclipse that the lifters were knocking and that got them to stop.
if the lifters are not the problem my next step would to be replace the oil pump also the oil pick up screen
Your motor is blown unfortunately. My 99 did this. Its a rod bearing that has spun. at idle it will knock loud cause of the low rpm engine spped. when you rev it the engine speed increases and the bearing may spin into or close to the correct position causing it to quite but that would be my opinion from experience.
