Deciding on 2019 or 2020 Acura RDX
Asked by RockyTopGirl Mar 19, 2019 at 07:58 PM about the 2019 Acura RDX FWD with Technology Package
Question type: Shopping & Pricing
I have been considering the Honda CRV, but recently switched to the RDX
because of the oil dilution problem. I know the best time to purchase will be
the end of the model year. First, I am wondering how much prices will drop
once the 2020 goes on sale, but also very anxious to see what small changes
Acura will make.
Any insight on either question? Any known issues? I am a huge fan of
purchasing at the end of the model year, but I also try to avoid the first year of
a new generation (ha!). I actually usually try to buy at the end of the model
year AND the generation. All of my Honda’s that we’ve purchased that way
have been exceptional vehicles.
I just haven’t heard many negatives for the rdx other than the infotainment
which I think I will probably actually like and Acura will probably update as
needed with software changes. Also, not a fan of the 2nd generation.
I’ve also read maybe a new color and/or the sport trim for 2020. I’m leaning
towards the technology package. Since I’m clearly raising my original budget,
price is a concern for me. I’m asking for your informed opinions! I’m a Honda
veteran but new to Acura.

Hi RockyTopGirl, I recently purchased a 2019 RDX SH-AWD A-Spec in White Diamond Pearl w/Black Interior. I'm not sure of what/if any changes there will be seeing as how cost only went up $200 or something like that. I figured I would (and I did) get a really good end of model year price which is what influenced my decision. So far, I really like the car. I changed from a 2011 MDX to this car. The infotainment system is nice, but I still do find myself instinctively trying to touch the screen to make selections. A couple of things I thought should have been included in A-Spec package, which includes Technology package are: 1- Handsfree tailgate opening/closing - and to the best of my knowledge, it's not even available as a dealer installed upgrade on A-Spec model. 2- Folding side view mirrors. - I think on a somewhat luxury car, this should be standard. 3- No spare tire - There is a flat tire kit which consists of a pump, etc. There is a dealer installed option to add one though if you feel you need one. 4- No rear heated seats. - Not a big deal for me, but think it should have been included in this package. I mostly drive in the city and didn't see a huge improvement over my MDX as far as fuel consumption. I mostly leave the car in sport mode, so may try comfort mode to see if there is a difference. I've noticed slight turbo lag at times, but not really annoying at all. I'm not a fan of the auto shut-off/resume feature and find myself shutting it off. It would be nice if you could disable the feature in the OS somewhere so as not to have to turn it off each time you start the car again. All in all, I am very pleased with the RDX and do believe I made a solid decision in buying one. No real issues whatsoever and think Acura did a heck of a job on this redesign. I'm sure I'll get many years of pleasurable driving out of it! Hope this helps. tg
I leased the 2019 RDX with Tech pkg end of March. I LOVE this veh and thought I got a good deal but at the end of the day, only the dealer knows for sure :). Like above response, there was no spare tire which I did not like but opted not to spend the extra money for the dealer to add it. I also do NOT like the auto on/off and opt to disable it every time I start the car which is not a problem. I've had zero problems, repeat, zero problems with this vehicle and, in fact, it is the best veh and best Acura I've ever owned. I love the new infotainment pad and unlike the above reviewer, I do not find myself looking for a touch pad like my last veh (2016 TLX w/tech pkg) which always had fingerprints all over it. Still no Android Auto which is not a deal breaker as the Acura Nav System does such a great job. Around town, I put the veh in Comfort mode but once I get on the freeway, I go to Sport + mode with ACC and lane assist turned on. As above writer indicates, it appears the price increase was $200 for all packages except for Advance which was $100 increase. For 2020, they did add a Pearl White color. Good luck with your final decision and yes, now is the time to get a deal on the 2019. The mother ship (factory) is probably helping the dealers with incentives to help them clear out the 2019s. I will give you one piece of advice; do your homework. Some dealers are more aggressive than others when it comes to moving product. You just need to tell them what you're willing to pay and yes, if you do NOT walk out of the dealership at least once, you are not getting your best deal...........just sayin :). They are experts at taking your money. Did I mention that the wifey and I just LOVE this vehicle.
Hi RockyTopGirl, What was the Out of the door price for the 2019 A Spec you paid?
On the leased car I paid $2429 deposit complete which includes all fees: taxes, gel coat that would cover minor scratches. I ended up with $537.00 monthly for 3 years. miles per year is 7500. I went to 3 dealers and back 3 times to local dealer I went with. how did I do?
Hi glad you went with Acura RDX best and safe suvs in the market . Which trim did you go with? I personally finance my vehicles not sure above the lease rates you gave me
I did lease with the technology package. the trim is new with the 2019 with the chrome slash piece that runs down the side.
I did lease with the technology package. the trim is new with the 2019 with the chrome slash piece that runs down the side. I had to have the pearl white with the all black leather inside. I love all the adjustments with the seat. I am tall with long legs. Fits great.

Hello--traded in my Honda CRV-2017(new design) for a new Acura RDX with Technology-- my CRV did everything well but no excitement and they are not a head turner. I have no regrets with my RDX--much better quality and looks--only downside is the mileage is no where near what I got with my CRV but much better handling and much quicker
I've had a 2019 Acura RDX A-Spec since mid 2018. Can't go wrong with an Acura. I've driven nothing but Acura for almost 30 years. I agree with one reviewer that certain things should be standard on an A-Spec. The fold-in side view mirrors while not a deal breaker is a nice feature and should be standard. I do love this car. This is my first RDX. Had 2 MDX's previously. Still getting used to the smaller cargo area but it's fine. I also HATE the auto engine shut off and wish there was a way to disable permanently. Only problem I've had with mine is every few months the screen goes haywire and a message pops up saying something like "driver mode change unavailable". I honestly never change from Comfort mode but it's annoying because when I get this message, it lightens and darkens the screen no matter what screen you are on. It's like the car can't tell if it's in day or night mode. I find this completely annoying and distracting while driving and there is no way to shut the screen off so I just have to deal with it. The other thing that I think was a big mistake in the design is the RDX doesn't have A/C controls in the back seat for people sitting there. This was a great feature on my MDX for my kids sitting in the second row. They really miss this and what ends up happening is they are hot so I have to blast the air from the front and then I'm cold!! lol. I do love the sporty look and the peppiness of the car. I still get compliments all the time and I've had the car for 1 1/2 years already!
