Can my Chevy Silverado 2,500 6.5L Diesel Turbo (93) Carry a 3,000 lb Camper?

Question type: General
I want to get a cab over slide in camper for my 1993 Diesel 6.5L Turbo Silverado. You
don't have the options that match. I have a long bed extra cab 2 door.
I know I can tow 17K lbs (or so I am told, not sure if I ever verified that.) I have easily
towed 6K with a trailer and two horses. But can my truck itself handle this size of a
camper? If not, 1) What would I need to do?
2) Or what size camper could it handle?
3) Would this stress the transmission?
I'm hoping to get this is the next week.
Thanks much!!

Other then the big air dam you will create, you'll never know its there.
IT should tug it like a tug boat,no problem as long as tranny is good.
Just to be on the safe side. Have the transmission fluid FLUSHED. As opposed to changing it. Flushing gets all the crap out and gives you a FULL fluid change. Make sure the transmission cooler is clean. Oh, and that includes a new filler.
BoholMark -- My tranny is slipping a little. I'm taking it in this week to be checked. Are you saying the extra weight could create transmission problems??? I'm not sure when it's been flushed that is a good idea. What is a transmission cooler and filler??
Thank you all for your responses!!! I took my tranny in, there is some weird voltage thing but it's OK for now. I found a lighter camper. It's good to know it should be OK!!
Enjoy your trip. BTW. Here's a little something that I do to my older diesels. Put a litre (or a quart) of 2 cycle motor oil in the fuel tank every now and then. It cleans up the injectors and quite downs the motor. I used to also run used motor oil ( highly refined) at 10°/. in my 1999 F350 dually back in the USA. This helped because the government, in there infinite wisdom, reduced the surfer content that lubed the valves in those early diesels. I have a 20+ year old Kia sportage diesel here in the Philippines and I can feel the difference when I add a liter of 2 cycle motor into the fuel tank.
Really you can add oil to the fuel??? Am I reading this right?
Oh yeah!!! You can and lots of guys do. On older diesels can do more stuff. Go Google wast oil fuel. I'm going dinner now, but lets keep in touch. I love saving money and I love helping the environmental.
