What is wrong with this car? Valve issues or cam bearings? No one seems to know

Please help... I do not want to have to buy another motor. They are hard to find
in my area. There is a dinstinctive knocking sound, like something is hitting
against the top of the motor. Someone said push valves, another said cam
bearings. I could not upload a sound clip.

No need, no matter what you are going to have to tear it apart to see exactly what is is. We could say this or that, but you won't know until you tear into it.

There is something you can try with no promises but it worked for me when I had a bad valve tap. Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer.
In my case I have a bad valve seat. It burns a little oil when idle too long. There is some lifter tapping but that's common for all types of vehicles. Better to have some slack in the valves than it being tight and no tapping. Could cause cam damage Check your oil, change oil filter. Some cases maybe and I have had this happen to my 91 3000 GT. A bad head gasket on the 5 the piston hard a clog in the head and engine block. Sometimes oil spray particle can cause build up and motor sludge. So that being said the head gasket blew and water was leaking into the cylinder ! Indication , white smoke and loss of radiator fluid and over heating!! S
