SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System which is the proper name for the Airbag System in your vehicle. When the SRS light is illuminated on the dash, this means that the Airbag Control Unit sees an issue in the system and has disabled the system. This means that the airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident.
My SMS light came on but with it other problems like no lights interior, no radio going, no light on door going, no indicators. An electrician checked couldn't find the fault, the mechanic checked no reason why the fuses should not work. PROBLEM ... corrosion around the fuses. So take the fuses out, scrape out the corrosion, spray with CRC and let dry, replace the fuses and BINGO everything went again. Stupid garage put up all the bonnets, left them up in the wind and rain and when I asked he said vehicle waiting to be done! No. Waiting for a part which took over a week to get. Likely that he opened up the bonnet on a daily basis for over a week. Cost $70..... Don't take it to Mitsubishi .... 5 minutes job. J.
There are a ton of problems that can trigger your airbag light, and without reading the code it is just a guess. You can read the code yourself or take it to the mechanic. If you want to tackle it yourself I suggest you start with this guide: Troubleshooting Mitsubishi airbag light on Youcanic. Just search it.
