94 Montero: purchased new and still love it. It's been faithful, however, recently I can be driving and it shuts down.....very much as if out of gas. A fuel starvation...... qb

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced fuel filter, drained tank,
replaced fuel and issues still exist.
Have not replaced fuel pump. Can a
fuel pump work, off and on ?
I always heard they either work or
don't.

Does it only happen when you go to idle? If so it could be the choke or computer. I was able to partially fix it by adjusting the choke, but a full fix would require a manual adjustment and a reset of the computer. If your car is shutting off when you come to stop signs and it should be idling this is the problem.
