If it's just some paint, try using a cleaner wax on the area first.
Always start with the mildest solution first. Cleaner wax is a good first step. I like Meguiar's.
If it's eroded the clearcoat you may have to use a more abrasive polishing or rubbing compound and then wax again. PITA, I know....
