Transfer case 97 Ford explorer AWD 4.0

Was driving down the freeway  and heard a loud
pop white smoke fluid everywhere. Drove home lot
of grinding called buddy he towed it home said
there was a hole in transfer case so he bought new
one and started to fix it he disconnected drive line
from transfer case and rear axel we towed it in
neutral back to my house put the drive line back
on. Tranny is full turned it on tried to shift into drive
and nothing no gears at all.

Rebuild xfer case recently seen @ $450. Rebuild transmission @ $750 ~ $900. Output splines to xfer case probably stripped. You don't want to do that total teardown at home.
