Honda Pilot 2019
Asked by GuruHNK1G Jul 25, 2019 at 08:41 PM about the 2019 Honda Pilot Touring AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hello. I just purchased a new Honda Pilot
2019 brand new. The car makes this odd
“woop” type noise when driving. It is very
inconsistent. It seems to happen no matter if
our phones are on or off. The dealership can
not figure this out. Has anyone had anything
similar? It seems like it is coming from the
front of the car.

when ever i here a whoop sound coming from behind, it's usually the police
I have the same problem. it happens when it gets hot out. HONDA DOES NOT HAVE A FIX
I started experiencing the same noise a whoop / chirp sound after my first oil change/tire rotation about 5000 miles. I bought my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite awd Nov 2018. Spring 2019 when weather got warmer a few weeks after the service was done. I didn't hear initially because I usually have the music on loud. I took it to the dealer service dept. I complained, basically $50k 5000 miles brand new car making noises, unacceptable. I had the mechanic and service guys ride with me to hear it. They had my car all day and couldn't find the source of the noise. After a few months and another trip to the service dept about the noise, they cross rotated the tires. I didn't hear the noise again. I started hearing the noise again this Spring on a few hot 85 degree days. I did see someone posted in another honda forum it might be an issue caused by a faulty ac unit. Last two days I turned off the ac and didn't hear the noise at all. It only happens until car reaches about 50 mph. Have an appt June 15th to fix this noise. I'm not driving around with a noise and definitely not without ac!! I currently have 14k miles. I'll update after my appt. I also heard it could be from a faulty fuel pump. We will see. My brakes also are not working correctly and it makes a weird noise when I brake, not squealing, weird started at about 12,000 miles.
Took it in to the dealership last week, they kept it for 3 days and diagnosed bad ac expansion valve, they replaced. Picked up Friday. Didnt drive until Mon, the whoop sound is still there. Called dealership and scheduled a drop off appt. Dropped if Thurs now they say it is the front mount, fuel pump, going to order new one and I can get my car Saturday afternoon. I hope it is truly fixed and running 100%. Will update after Sat.
Hi Tonya. I have the same problem. I’m guessing the front mount or fuel pump was not the issue but can you update where you are with resolution?
Tonya and others, I too have a 2019 Pilot Touring making the same whoop sound you discribe. My dealer cannot find the noise either and a Honda rep actually said he did not hear it. To me, the sound sounds like it comes from the passenger rear of the vehical. There must be a way to get Honda interested in resolving this issue. It is beginning to sound like this may be a common problem. If anyone finds the fix please let us all lnow what it is. I'm with you, do not expect a vehical this expensive to have a problem like this.
Same problem 2019 AWD Pilot 16,000 miles making a RRrrr whining sound randomly when accelerating. If I keep my foot on the gas it gets a bit louder and will not accelerate. It seems to happen more at high elevation and at speeds between 20-40mph. I took it in, and they said they didn't hear it. But as soon as I went up the mountain it began happening again
Hi, I typed a long response and I don't know why it didn't post, oh well. I'll try again. I took it back in July and the dealership kept it for 15 days!! ( I was given another pilot as a courtesy rental not the model like mine, not an elite or touring, a basic one). They replaced the fuel pump, and it still continued to chirp and make the whoop sound. Dealership/Service Dept. told me they contacted Honda many times. Honda told them not to replace anything else on the vehicle! Dealership said honda's aware of this model'd issues. They said once there's a fix they will call me to come back and they'll fix it. Until then I drive my expensive vehicle with an annoying noise when the weather is above 70's. It also brakes on certain roadways with no other vehicles near me. I just pray it doesn't ever brake when someone is close on my bumper! And the new software update: I had to take it in August for them to load in somehow, not a fan! It now is so sensitive to getting near anything, it beeps and flashes on the display screen objects are too close: at the bank drive up, in the carwash which is touchless, and backing out of my driveway!! Very annoying! Good luck to All! Take care and be careful!
My dealer also delivered the “Honda knows about the whoop noise problem and has no fix available” message. It was suggested to me that I turn the radio up and I wouldn’t hear it. Not acceptable for a rather expensive vehicle. I believe the noise has something to do with the variable speed compressor which is used only in the touring and elite trim levels. My dealer doubts that replacing my whooping compressor with essentially the same compressor will reliably fix the problem. So, I fixed the problem by trading my 2019 touring for a 2021 touring. A rather expensive way to fix it but I know have a no whoop, smoother shifting, new Pilot. I was never going to be happy with the 2019 mostly because I don’t believe it was ever going to be fixed. My whoop noise had gotten more regular, louder, and began to sound like a metal on metal noise hinting that a major AC failure was imminent. This would probably happen shortly after the warranty ended. Good luck!
I actually looked at the lemon laws here in VA over the summer. It was passed the cutoff time for that. I definitely think there was a bad batch of vehicles produced in the 2019 models. This is my second Honda and will be my last unfortunately.
Kim, I don't know if this is what you experienced, but on my Pilot if you accidentally hit the D (drive) button more than once, it will shift in different modes, S, other drive modes, and the vehicle makes a weird noise and won't accelerate and acts like it wants to stop in the middle of the road. It has happened to me several times. It will show up in your display dash by the steering wheel what setting it goes to. Just be sure you have it in regular drive mode. You can look in your vehicle's manual for that specific topic and see if that might be what happened. If not, I hope they can find the source of the problem and fix for you.
