1992 Eclipse Engine Swap

Asked by chrisafaulk May 24, 2012 at 09:51 AM about the 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse Base

Question type: General

I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse 1.8L automatic transmission. I am thinking of replacing the engine and transmission. Would it be more cost effective to replace the engine with a Honda engine, say a civic or accord? or should I just rebuild the current engine? Rebuild kits are cheap enough. I just have a place local that sells Honda engines cheap. What year models fit my Eclipse?

you cant just drop a honda motor into an eclipse without doing some custom fabrication. idk of any motors that will just drop into/bolt right up to an eclipse. i would say rebuild your motor or just buy a new 4g63 you can find them online as crate motors or look locally on craiglist or a junkyard. theyre not very hard to find or very expensive. if you want to drop a honda motor into your eclipse, you might as well just buy a honda

If a 98 elcipse rs engine will fit in there ao should a 98 honda crv, 98 neon, 98 stratus, and 98 talon since they all have the same engine

Without doing any fabrications at all, a Honda motor will not just drop right in, you'll find that things won't match up and connect correctly. I would just go get a rebuild kit, or if you can find a cheap 1.8l Mitsubishi or Chrysler eclipse motor, that would be the easiest.

Hey was just wondern if u do the change over would would u be willing to sell the transmission if it is good if so get back with me
