Last Friday I drove my Nissan Altima from work and parked it in my garage. On Sunday I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. It sounds like it is about to start and then stops. My husband says it could be the timing chain. Could it have broken after I parked it? It wasn't making any type of noise when I drove it last.

A timing chain can only break while the engine is running. You would know if one broke - this is an "interference engine," meaning the pistons would contact the valves if the timing were off, say by a timing chain breaking. It's a quick engine death. I have heard from some Nissan owners of the timing chains jumping a cog when they have a lot of stretch. These were in very high mileage engines and generally all had performance issues long before the timing chains went. It would help to answer your question if you could describe how the engine was running and how many miles you have on it.
