2005 Nissan Quest Air Conditioner Clicking Noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Nissan Quest.  When I turn the AC on there is a clicking noise coming from behind the dash that gets quicker as I increase the fan speed.  The AC still works and blows plenty of cool air, but I'm afraid it will break if I don't address whatever is making the noise.  Any suggestions?

The fan blades might be hitting something this would explain why the sound goes faster as you increase fan speed- hard to say for sure without hearing the noise- either some part of the fan housing has come loose or there's a chance that something has entered through the vents-

I'm not sure about your car- but generally, yes, they have difficult access and working under the dash is a pain- in the neck- a good garage shouldn't charge too much- ask them to listen- it might be as little as $100- but if it's a bad garage, it could get bad- if you're handy with a screwdriver, you might want to at least take a look- start by taking panels off under the dash on the passenger side- MAYBE it's somethin' easy

bcrowley79, any luck for this suggested fix? My 2005 Quest has the same issue now.

Have you changed the cabin filter? Hopefully it's not the fan as it's on top of heater box behind radio and dash has to be removed to replace it.

I believe noise came after the garage changed both air cabin filer & engine filter. I just wondering -- will this noise hurt the car engine?

No it has nothing to do with the engine..

Hi. Yes, something must have been stuck in there hitting the fan blades. Changed the cabin filters which were pretty dirty, and a couple of days later the noise disappeared. I'm guessing changing the filters or maybe increased air flow was enough to dislodge whatever was in there. Thanks!

its the it is the box that that controls the door that swithes from ac to heat the door the box is on the side of heater cover

This is the most annoying car ever. It's an actuator - there's video of it on youtube. It kills batteries so quickly. If you don't drive it within 14 hours, battery is dead when you get to it... I want to know why Nissan doesn't recall. They put crappy electronics in these. I had to replace computer, replace stereo twice, now batteries, and I get to hope it's not the "right actuator" or it will run a lot to fix.
