What part is this?

This piece fell off as I parked my car. When
forward enough that the front end was scraped a
bit by the curb. What is it? Can I drive safely for a
few days before my appointment?

That looks like the heat/splash shield from the front catalytic converter. If you open the hood you should see it as part of the exhaust system coming out of the front of the engine. Just double check that you don’t have any wires or hoses touching the catalytic in that area. As long as it is clear of wires and hoses, you should be fine driving.
