Dolly towing my 2020 Hyundai Sonata FWD
Asked by Robert Sep 23, 2021 at 06:04 PM about the 2020 Hyundai Sonata SEL FWD
Question type: General
I own a 2020 Hyundai Sonata FWD and want to tow it but the rear wheels
lock up. I was told 4 different answers from 4 different mechanics. Leave the
accessory switch on. Can't leave it on for long only for emergencies.
Unhook the battery cables. Leave the accessory switch on and trickle charge
each night I stop on long trips.. I tried wiring my motor home to the battery
through my dolly plug but somehow the car knew it had power going to it and
would not release the parking brake, as soon as I disconnected the power to
rolled in accessory position. Is there an answer?

Your dealer will not defeat a safety item like an emergency brake. I gave you the best and easiest solution. What you do with it is your choice.
The car trailer also reduces the wear and tear on the car. You can install a front shield to eliminate rock chips. An aluminum car trailer is the way to go.
I don't see the safety issue as the car is strapped into the dolly and also chains. The front wheels are left in park and before removing from dolly the accessory switch is back on and hooked up? If it were a safety issue on of the four mechanic's I talked with would have broached that issue. Thanks for the responses though.
You also have to add towing brakes to the car which is a legal requirement. Having a trailer with brakes solves that problem.
Don't need it as my tow dolly comes with electric brakes, and is legal in all 50 states!
