Yes then car shuts off. Got it next day and it fired right up. Took to advanced auto and they said alternator going bad. But my husband said something leaking on old alternator? What the heck is happening

Any fluids leaking on to alt is bad, especially antifreeze can coat/short internal parts (ie) brushes, stator, voltage regulator determine type of fluid, and alt is on driver or passenger side? I can better advise on how to repair if you have basic repair skills can save you a few Hundered in shop fees.

The alt replacement is pretty strait forward. I do not recommend aftermarket alts autozone Ect, cheap and warranty and all is nice but not so much when you are doing it twice and three times

OEM is recommended for your Nissan as it has lasted for 13yrs and probably 150+ thousand miles. Spendy is the problem and may not fit into your budget in these troubling economic times. Used is always another option. U pull it yards give the opportunity to make a mistake or break something. Tools needed....... 10mm 12mm 14mm 17mm and patience. Disconnect battery 10mm pos side separate it to prevent accidental contact during repair. The fan I believe is held on w 4 10mm nuts, the black plastic cover around it is secured in the same fashion on the side remove fan and shroud at the same time use caution to not scrape or force against radiator as damage to rad may result, the primary belt you'll notice a pulley w a but and a second 12mm bolt from the top of it loosen 14mm nut and loosen second top bolt this will relax tention on belt, repeat for alt PS belt. Remove 12mm at top of alt, there's 14mm or 17mm remove it as well there may be a bracket but on the backside I can't remember off hand, gently rotate alt forward there is a heavy wire w a rubber boot over a 10mm but gently peel back boot remove but there is a plug w four wires squeeze tab push in while squeezing and then pull. Reverse to install

Question have nissan exterra 2001 stop light no working stop on same time watt??? Happen ..
