Why is my hybrid clunky when accelerating from a stand-still?

Question type: General
My 2013 Jetta Hybrid does not transition from electric at a stand-still to gasoline when accelerating very smooth. It causes the entire sedan to "shutter" or "buck." This does not happen every time, but it happens enough to be worrisome.
I recently changed the oil/filter and noticed that my air filter was pretty dirty. I'm replacing that today. Maybe the dirty air filter was choking the engine just enough to cause the turmoil when accelerating? Maybe this is just the nature of the vehicle when is switches from electric to gas?
Please let me know if you experience this too. First time owning a hybrid.

No it is not the nature of the vehicle to do what you describe. My daughter-in-law had one and never experienced that problem. Hybrids use a power-split transmission system and there could be a problem with the planetary gears. I would change the air filter, obviously, it is very dirty it will not be good for the engine.
Thank you Jorge. I suppose the only way to find out would be to take it to the dealer? If it’s a mechanical issue with the planetary gears wouldn’t you expect the issue to happen every time? Any other thoughts?
Not necessarily, if this is the problem, and just starting, it may take a few more miles before you experience bigger issues. If replacing the air filter does not help, I think it is best for you to take it to the VW dealer or a reputable mechanic shop.
Did you make any progress on this? I’m having the same issue with mine.
Changing the engine air filter has improved the cars performance when switching from electric to gas during stop and go. Not sure I’m convinced that was the entire problem. But I’d check your engine air filter to start.
I have a 2013 Jetta Hybrid that's doing the same thing. It's been doing it for about 6 months now and my mechanic hasn't been able to diagnose the problem. It doesn't give off any error codes. On top of that it just started to experience a sudden loss of acceleration.
We are having the same trouble on our 2013 hybrid. Sound like a running theme Vw said they couldn’t find anything either. But it feel very strange. Wondering if it’s time to trade in. We don’t want to spend $$$ if it can’t be fixed. It usually happens first thing in the morning when driving through the neighborhood getting to the main road
My Jetta hybrid is doing the exact same thing. I had transmission fixed twice first under warranty, the second time costing me $3,000 after a $3,000 goodwill. Now they told me it was an axel, replaced that and it’s still intermittent clunkiness and my hybrid system error light came on yesterday. I love my Jetta but I have to sell it... unfortunately, the trade in value is about $2000 now with 104,000 miles. I don’t know what to do to be honest.
i am needing new transmission and am only a few months out of warranty and VW is quoting $5800.. needing a goodwill transmission but its so hard to find, where did you find yours!?
I just traded my 2015 hybrid Jetta due to the transmission failed. Been through gauntlet with VW and they are supporting anything. It had 136k miles. Very known problem. If your car is shuttering then get rid of it now cause it’s gonna 6-7k when all said and done. VW has horrible customer service.
