My first thought is oil. Make sure you're using high-mileage oil that will run well at high temperatures, such as 5w40. Another part to your question can be answered by explaining the atmospheric difference between cold and hot air. Cold air is more dense than hot air, which means there are more air particles in cold air. This means a vehicle (or anything that breathes air) will perform better in a cooler climate/time of day. This is why cold-air intakes are low to the ground and more effective than stock intakes. The trouble in your case is not completely solveable with engine parts. But a cold-air intake and high-mileage oil might help a little.
