Tire grinding and door latch?
Asked by Lewis Aug 01, 2020 at 06:48 PM about the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Sport Coupe RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Two things, first off any reason why the tire would
rub on inside of fender on back tire? Shocks are
fairly new and spring is in good condition. Car
doesn't really bounce or have this issue.
Second drives door was working fine and now it
will only open from the inside. Exterior push button
does not seem to be engaging the latch release.
Any thoughts on fixes?

Tires too wide? To fix the door you will need to remove the door panel and check the linkage.
So I checked tired they are the correct size and it only did it once when someone was in the back. First and only time they got out i drove it around and it was fine. And no the person is not large.
If the springs are original they are probably sagging.
There's a rod that goes from the push button down to the latch assembly. It's held in place by little clips. Most likely the clips have rusted away and allowed the rod to fall off and down to the bottom of the door. You'll need to remove the door panel to gain access to the inside of the door. As for the tires rubbing with a rear seat passenger, do you have more than 200 pounds in the trunk? The trunk is rated for a 200 pound load. If not, the rear shocks and or springs are worn. BTW the total load capacity of the vehicle is 1100 pounds. Six passengers at 150 pounds each plus 200 pounds in the trunk. Hope that helps! Jim
