why does my Airconditioner stop working when the ck engine light comes on?

My 1992 Nissan Sentra has a very cold air conditioner but lately it has a strange problem.  The air will stop cooling and the CK engine light comes on.  then later the light goes off and the air blows cold again.  I haven't hadthe ck engine codes tested yet.  No one in this area does it on a car this old.  I'm a 70 year old granny living on small SSA ck and can't afford much in repair cost so I'm relying on a friends help to fix it if he can.  Thanks for any help

If you can get to a auto parts store such as Advanced, Carquest or Napa. They will check the code for free. Your A/C stops working several different codes one of them is coolant temp. This sensor is very inexpensive.

Thank you for your help. We purchased the sensor and the air still blows hot and the ck enjine light still on. I tried avanced auto and two others and they say they cannot test ck engine on a 1992 Nissan Sentra. :(

I am having the same problem with my 1998 Nissan Frontier. I no sooner pulled out of the dealership after having a routine diagnostic test came up with no issues and the exact same issue from the lady above started to occur with my truck. Any other suggestions? We replaced a battery terminal and the alternator and battery check came back good.
