SES light is on indicating a problem with the engine. You would need to get the code read to see what it is, then fix the problem or the light would just keep coming on. You use a scanner to read and reset the light, code.

Could my car be low on transmission fluid causing the light to come on?

Not an answer, still a question. My SES light is on, along with the trac/anti lock lights, it's not displaying any codes. It is also overheating, though the hose leak has been fixed and the engine fans are working. It doesn't overheat constantly, but if I have to sit for any length of time, it sometimes does, not always. The oil has been changed, I bought a code reader since this car never seems to stop breaking down. It is not listing any issues. I'm stumped and irritated.

No answers huh? Well, though it's not displaying any codes, the code reader I bought did give me answers.....but since I'm not a mechanic and it doesn't cone with a translation book, I still don't know what the problem actually is and I cannot afford a mechanic as the prices they charge to even look at a car, much less fix it are astronomical, I guess I'm just screwed.

If your car is overheating I would change the thermostat, a mechanic told me before you put a new one in, bowl some water and put the new stat in it. If it does not open and close. It isn't good. That's all I got. Good luck.

Thank you, but the thermostat has been changed. The car is such a piece of crap that I just bought a new one. A Toyota. No more issues.
