My 1996 ford explorer xlt 4.0 when I crank it up in the morning it run fine but when I drive into town and back shut it off wait 20 minutes and it will not crank up right and I guess getting no gas or not enough airflow do not know?

The problem is obviously heat related and probably electronic. It is going to be a process of elimination when the condition is present. Question: Does the starter function normally (spinning the engine) when the condition is present?
