how do I turn off the service engine soon light on my 1998 oldsmobile intrigue?

You can generally have someone with a scanner I.E. Autozone, erase the codes so the light goes off but depending on what the problem is, it will return soon after. If its coming on due to an emissions issue like an O2 sensor it may stay off for a longer period of time but will still come back on once the ECU decides it can't automatically correct the issue. Is the "change oil" light on as well? Intrigues are known for electrical problems and sometimes after oil change no matter how many times to try to reset it, the oil life system won't reset. Another thing to try is to take of your gas cap and re-tighten it. A lot of GM cars will throw a check engine code if the EVAP system is not sealed propperly which includes a tight seal of the fuel cap. If the fuel cap tightening doesn't work I would advise getting it scanned as Tom suggested and fixing the issue. Its not going to get better, only worse but don't be intimidated by it, a lot of times its a simple cheap fix.
Just want to let people who own Olds Intrigues 2002 model because this problem drove me crazy for a couple of weeks. First TC for low spd cooling fan set off CEL after replace the fan assembly several relays and even the PCM the CEL would come and for a period of time and then go out on its own. Then mixed in with that I had an air pump code. Well to make a long story short I started checking wires from the relay/fuse box under hood to the PCM. And those geniuses from GM on my model year decided to route the main wire bundle right over the battery.Well over the years those wires are being attacked by the acid. I took off the black wire bundle and found many wire were either broken or were about to break from the acid. Spliced in new wire and guess what all codes have disappeared. So take it from me if you have a weird problem check your wire bundle first it will saving you a lot of headaches.

Ok so #1 the service engine soon light IS NOT the check engine light. They are two separate lights I have the same issue but it's the SERVICE ENGINE SOON not the check engine light. Service engine soon is on the left side of the dash and the check engine light is the right side. I've had codes scanned there is none it passed inspection I just want to know what the crap it's for
