How do do I tighten a power steering belt on a 98 Plymouth Breeze

I believe this one's got a single flat belt, with a spring arm tensioner which sets the tension with a compression spring. Made the mistake of thinking that it had a means of tensioning it, but these blokes have it all figured out for you. I think you should look at the alignment of the belt tensioner and see if the bearing is too worn to keep the belt's alignment--which should be replaced along with your belt if this is too worn and sloppy. basically a 1/2" long handled ratchet, there's a spot on the tensioner bracket. and simply push it in the loosen direction, and remove the belt. This way you could listen to the the belt tensioner to see if it sounds crunchy and out of alignment and needs to be replaced...would be my recommendation.

The tensioner is not adjustable and they loosen up after ten years / 100,000 miles or two belts. Bob is bringing home the smoked bacon with the replacement recommendation.

okay. i found two bolts underneath, but i couldnt get it to move. how many bolts and what are the locations of the ones i need to loosen please?

you shouldn't have to loosen any bolts, but snap in your 1/2 drive ratchet into the tensioner arm and pull into the loosen direction, the belt wil go slack and you can take it off. get back on you feet, and grab that 1/2 breaker or ratchet...it's easier than you think.

once it's off, we can examine the tesioner and see if it's too worn to continue with it's prescribed duties-

do you not see the square hole on the tensioner arm, 'bout halfway up the length?

It'd be so easy to show you, in fact it was DaveH25 or Llregal that had a picture of this tensioner configuration, but now we're forced to go verbose on this.

i found the square hold and pulled. i think i need to jack the car up higher that way i can get a lil more pulling power. thank you so much for your help.

get a kid to hold the end of the pipe for you (one that won't get catapulted) and remove the belt. Kinda tough to do by yourself.
