my 2010 E-350 ford van - shifter sticks in park

When I start my van it runs the rpms up to 1000, after a short while they  come
down to around 800 rpms. the shifter is stuck in park. and the green open
ended wrench lights up on the dash. this after i was hooking up trailer brake
assist, and had removed the brake light switch from the peddle. any ideas?

Switch most likely not good anymore. If it’s not removed with the correct care or if u pressed it in and out with ur fingers... it’s done.. it has a certain travel... in... but it will go beyond that if u pressed it with ur hands.
