Intermittant electrical problem

In many States, if the vehicle has 100,000 miles or more you are just SOL. But with 80,000, I would take it back to the dealer, if they want good customer relations they will help you. I assume it came with no warranty expressed or implied, unless you bought a service agreement from either the dealer or some other outfit that sell those. I bit the bullet and paid $2,500 for a service agreement on my Corolla, but that was bought from Toyota Motor of America. Other than factory service agreements, (notice I do not call it a warranty, it's NOT) most are worthless. My son got screwed by (I better not name the name of the company, I don't want backlash) but they did not honor the one he bought, an engine with 30,500 miles blew and they claim it was because he ran it without oil. He is a USAF F-16 fighter mechanic, he would not run a car w/o oil. Currently in litigation.

I have the exact same problem, sorry I do not have an answer. I checked all my fuses and relays, and no fix.

I have the same problem and my friend who is a mechanic said it's probably a grounding issue somewhere under the hood (possibly corroding ground connections. There are many branches to your ground

Gauge cluster, either needs repaired or replaced. You’re welcome

And yes, windows and radio are are controlled through the gauge cluster. If you smack the cluster when it happens it will most likely come back on. Common problem with fords in that time frame.

Same problem, if I smack it , sometimes it fixes it. There is a clicking when it goes off and on. The clicking is the same as the 15 min auto shut off after you've tirned off the engine. The cigarette elec plug in is where I first experienced it. I plugged in my cell charger and my gauge cluster shut off and I panicked. 20k later and I have good day's where it happens once and bad days where it's almost constant. I think it could be a ground.

Put a new alternator in it I had one do the same thing it would intermittently over charge

I too have the same problem. My mechanic seems intimidated by the possibility of figuring this out.

2008 Ford E 250 with 177,000 that I bought new. Pretty good van. Cluster goes dead, radio turns off. Everything else works. Gotta check the windows. Headlight high beam shows on dash, as does the turn signals. Didn't check the seat belt yet. Any body have any other things? I think it's a circuit break and when the engine warms up it's fine - so far has done it twice when I started driving cold in about 5 minutes it shut off. First time about 10 minutes & 10 miles, 2nd time 5 minutes & 5 miles. Damp outside both times markw@abeasdotnet
