Engine stalls when driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 05 e150 with 4.6. It will run fine then start
hesitating and running rough. The check engine light will
blink and a wrench will come on the dash and it will not go
at all. When I turn it off it will start back and all the lights
will be off. It runs a little rough but still no engine lights on. I
quit driving it to be safe. Any ideas what it could be? I
changed all coils and plugs about 25,000 miles ago.

How long since over-all tune-up? I always check for codes even if lite isn't on. I've had inactive codes point me in the right direction. Is it rough mainly at idle? The basics for a rough idle, check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum. Ford has had some problems with maf sensor, where applicable. Unplug the maf system and take it for a spin, if it runs better, check the maf system. Just my opinion. Again if idle, check and clean anything that has to do with idle air system, including throttle body.

Check out the fuel pump control module located midway between engine and fuel tank and mounted to driver side frame.
