check to make sure when you turn the ignition the small wire top center on the starter solenoid is getting 12Volt power from the ignition switch. You can do this with a test light. Just disconnect it put the probe in the center of the wire disconnected and ground to the car or battery. Then turn the ignition to start. The test light should light up. If it doesn't The ignition isn't where you put in the key but rather mounted to the steering column so when you turn the key it inturn moves a rod through the ignition to each position.

could be either a bad ignition or power isn't getting to the ignition mounted on the steering column

You may also have a fusible link burnt that feeds the ignition switch. I believe a few of the wires mounted to the solenoid are fusible links. You won't be able to tell visually as it burns inside the insolation of the wire. See if any of the wires seems like it would stretch or probe with the test light to see if power is getting to the wire
Solenoid bought will be installing later today. Thanks for the help.
