Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just recently rebuilt my shifter in my 96 ranger

the gear up and it’s like it is in neutral but can
barley pull it down and it will go in gear any

I had the same thing happen to me on a 97 Ford F150 about 3 weeks ago it's like if the shifter is loose and the reason for that is your shift fork needs replacing. There is 1 shift fork for Evey 2 gears so 1 for 1st&2nd gear and 1 for 3rd&4th you have to get the transmission loose and it's right below the shift tower it's like 10 balts if I'm not mistaking well the problem is that the shift fork is worn down it has a lip that gets the gears and moves them back and forth to where it needs to go
