starter and silinoid problem

Asked by Tracy Nov 29, 2023 at 10:38 PM about the 1988 Ford E-Series E-150 STD Econoline

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have replaced my silinoid and starter on my van twice myself once in the shop
now its in the shop again and they are telling me that its the same two problems
again even though its only been a month since i last replaced, and with that i
am just guessing but its probably fact that it has to be something else and that
what ever else it is is causing these problems so my question to you is what
could it possibly be that is the real problem ?  now i was trying to start my van i
was on a little incline and when i put it further into park it would start moving
backwards till i let go of the shifter  all together  could it be a linkage problem ?

Grounding issues can cause solenoid failure especially on a van. On my old Ford van I added ground straps from engine to frame and frame to body. Then the transmission problem sounds like linkage and possibly a parking pawl problem.

Julie... This is a site for automotive questions, I've seen your store and it has nothing to do with automotive.

Get an OEM starter from the dealer or on line and see how it goes , If you still have trouble then you know it's something else . If you've been getting car crust and auto zoo starters that may be the problem
