Tune up on 1998 E250 V8 Triton van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I am going to do my own tune up on my Ford E250 Econoline van because
I simply can't afford to pay $450.00 for a mechanic so my question is
...what if anything should I pay close attention to and what plugs will work
with the stupid coil packs? Also, I have read that I need a special tool for
this motor? All I have is the standard plug socket and planned on getting
extensions since they are recessed so far down. And will I need to set the
timing? Thanks so much for being there every single time I had a
question/doubt cuz you guys shoot straight and are dead on the money!
Just had to throw that shout out
Valerie
Oh! One other thing, I'm thinking about running that Seafoam engine
cleaner thru and would like some input on that as well too. Thnx

there are several good vids on youtube about this tune up, wouldn't hurt to check them out.

Anything with your year and engine should be good. Btw, seafoam is a great product, I would go ahead with the tuneup first, then if the vehicle isn't running right you have a baseline by eliminating that first.

also Valerie, I will warn you it is really easy to break off the spark plugs in those ford engines when you remove them.
This engine isn't prone to plug breakage, It takes normal plugs.
NAW THEY DONT BREAK THE PLUGS JUST SHOOT THEM OUT OF THE HEAD AND THRU THE BOOT FOR THE COIL PACK , WTF? GONE THRU 3 ALREADY AND FOUND OUT FORD IS STILL PUTTING EFFED UP HEADS IN MODELS STRAIGHT OUT OF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. ARE YOU SERIOUS???? THAT IS WHY I'M A CHEVY WOMAN
Use compressor or air hose to clean engine area before changing plugs. So nothing can drop into motor when u pulls the plugs. It’s standard 5/8 plug socket . The coils suck to pop off but the plugs should be easy .they can pop out due to lack of threads holding it in. Factory calls for 15 -17 lbs torque. Tighten plugs at 22 lbs instead and it will eliminate that problem .place dab of die electric on coil cap to plug . You may have to remove fuel rail to get to back plugs. Obviously you remove dog box and go in from drivers side . I removed both seat . It’s easy 4 bolts and will make this job way way way easier. Good luck . If u don’t have a torque wrench . Best I can tell u is once it’s snug gonna about an 1/8 of turn .but u may want to google that part . I’m not a mechanic
