How can I erase my security with the ignition like this

Asked by Teacea Aug 14, 2020 at 02:03 AM about the 2006 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The g6 2006 Pontiac key was made brand new for
it from the dealership and was told to program it
by turning the key to the on position for 10 min but
my problem. Is my key won't go all the way in the
ignition  and not able to turn it but if I pulled it back
a lil and use the tip of the key it will turn but won't
start now I was wondering if I can still erase the
security and reprogram it still with the key not
being all the way in the ignition while I'm starting
this process

I would squirt some powered graphite in the ignition lock, it might be dirty, so you can insert the key fully. But if that doesn't work the lock also might be broken, and you need a new lock and key and programming. If the graphite works. the proper procedure is to insert the key and turn for 10 and a half minutes. turn off for 45 seconds then repeat this two or three more times then turn the ignition to the On position for 5 seconds, then start the vehicle.
