2006 G6. where's the sensor that controls the dash lights? I want to cover it! I hate that I
can't turn on my dash lights when I feel I need them because for me it's hard to see
the speedometer a lot... The manual says it's 'above the speedometer/dash'...? I can't find
it.

Is the plastic dome in the middle of your dashboard top. Right top from your radio #8 in the picture

That's what it is? I thought that dome thing was for like GPS or Sirius. I'm hoping if that is it ,I can 'block' it so I can control my lights on the dash etc. I'll give it a try! Thank you so much!

*update. I tried covering that sensor thing with black electrical tape. It didn't work. :-(

Automatic dashboard lights are dangerous. Seeing your dashboard lit up makes you think you turned on your lights and if you can see your headlights on you are sure you turned on your lights. But guess what? You didn't. You have no taillights.

I agree with Barbara - covering the sensor #8 on the chart - does not work, there must be another sensor somewhere. In bright sunlight, at the right angle - the dash is hidden in a dark hole and cannot be quickly read - even the speedometer. Maybe there is another sensor that has to be covered also because when entering a tunnel the dash lights come on automagically. This has been my biggest gripe about this car - sure would like to get it to work Regarding dusti16 answer - I always drive with headlights in auto - which means, if the engine is running - the headlights and taillights are on.
