Possible Transmission

Asked by Guru136TW Oct 02, 2019 at 10:27 AM about the 2006 Pontiac G6 Base V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving the car and started noticing a burning smell like that of a transmission. Then started to notice a light smoke in the cab of the car. The engine light came on and the car seemed to lose power or become hindered when gas was applied. Pulled over and lifted the hood and could smell burnt transmission. Let the engine cool and then limped it home. Car seems to be fine when sitting at an idle. I am more than certain its the transmission based on what I know so far. What I'm more curious about is if the trans is fixable or needs to be swapped?

If you are sold that the problem is the trans, I would look into getting a rebuilt unit and pass right by the "fix it" option. Rebuilt units are typically sold with a good warranty and the time required to swap the bad one out and put the rebuilt one in is a one day job or less.
