Replacing the lower drivers side decorative grille.

Asked by vibrator Apr 09, 2013 at 12:18 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Vibe Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had two of these blow out on the road and I've got the new part, want to make sure I'm installing it correctly. Just clipping it in doesn't seem to secure it properly. Would appreciate any help.

well if it is oriented correctly there should be a few of these sort of ratcheting one-way fasteners that clip it into place, if these ain't clipping into place may need a tad bit of modification with your needlenose pliers...I'd get fancy and effectively "sew" them in two spots with mechanic's wire or zip-tie if you can find holes to do so....or pull out your electric drill and make a few holes to fit the zip tie of course out of view of the front of the car~

It could be the bumper cover is deforming. There are a variety of ways to attach your grills so they don't pop off. Custom car grills use tie wire or wire ties through drilled small holes. Sometime they use adhesives. --- Check out the Custom Car Grills catalog attachment page. They sell the materials and have a short "How To" video in each section. You can watch the videos and determine which method work the best for your situation. --- http://www.customcargrills.com/products.asp?cat=28

using small zip ties and drilling a few holes is a little more efficient and makes the fix almost invisible.
