2003 pontiac bonneville no crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 03 Bonneville ssei that has an intermittent
no crank issue, when I turn key from off to start I
get nothing, release key to on position all dash
lights light up. Security only lights up for a second
then goes out, it will start once check engine lights
up (sometimes only takes a second other times 5-
10 minutes, other times nothing). Battery has full
charge, all fuses / relays are good, starter is good
(the problem is no voltage of switch wire). I have
done the key relearn trick thinking that maybe the
issue, nothing. Checked grounding points I can find
all look good/test good. From time to time while
driving I'll loose all power on dash and car will die,
and I have to go through the same process to get it
started back. I am not going to start throwing
money at it in parts till I figure out what to buy. I
have not checked the ignition switch or neutral
safety switch yet (due to lack of info on that), is
there something I am missing this is getting very
taxing.

Did you check for voltage at applicable fuses, use a test lite. Note the diagram. Did you check voltage at ignition switch fuse, rear fuse box. I'm trying to decide if ignition switch is getting voltage? Gm has had a problem with ignition switches. I'm not saying replace it, but, you need to do some testing. You can see other fuse and circuit breaker in diagram. My info says you have pk3 security system, that is starter motor disable according to my info. It may be possible to jump starter solenoid, just to see if starter will crank the engine, that doesn't mean it will start. There are safety issues trying that, you need to be sure tranny is in park or neutral and functional parking brake is set. It wouldn't hurt to have helper sitting in there with foot on the brake, safety is your responsibility.

I'm having the exact problems. What did you figure it to be?

I checked voltage at the fuses and relays and had voltage. I ended up parking it for about a month (Got another vehicle), battery died put charge on it and then it started with no problems. Unfortunately I did let it sit for a little to long over the winter and not battery is completely bad, now if I try and start it the starter just clicks so I am thinking I am going to have to replace the battery. I haven't had time to mess with it the last couple months life has been extremely busy and money has been tight. Hope soon I'll get it back up and running.

I'm having the same problem, 03 Bonneville standard issue. I drove the car to my doctor and it was fine, started with no problems and drove with no problems (did have the check engine light on though, only for a few days) anyway, when I came out of the doctor it wouldn't start. When I turn it, it clicks but nothing. If I hold the key in the starting position it clicks quickly and continuously. All the dash lights come on and can unlock and lock doors and charger phones still etc. All it does is click, doesn't sound like it's even trying to turn over. So did anyone figure out what the issue was?
