When the.transmission starts to slip there are no fixes that are easy. Rebuild or replace are really your only two options.
First thing to do look at fluid, does it smell burnt is it a browny colour? If so its burnt. It should be a red colour.

Unfortunately, Ford had issues with Taurus transmissions in the 90's. ALL Ford Taurus's from 1996-99 are known for transmissions going out and eventually they all need a rebuild at around 120,000 miles, some sooner and some later, so in your case a rebuild is in your future real soon it it's slipping. AAMCO here you come. Kenny.
I have a 96 Taurus wagon and it was doing the same thing. Granted it wasn't a terrible slip but enough that you could feel it. I had decided I'm just gonna do a fluid and gasket change and it shifts like butter. Also my fluid was burnt but doing a fluid change is pricey but can be worth it if that all it really needs.
