I have the same problem on a 2002 Blazer. When the heat breaks I will figure out how to repair this issue and will get back to you. This site has provided no help to me at all with regard to this problem. And I asked three times.

Contact someone, including at a local junkyard, about how to open the rear top hatch manually. Involves taking some parts off and possibly a bit of damage - also sticking some sort of probe in to loosen a latch on each side. But doable.
