2002 trans am, while driving check engine light, service light comes on, then panel light goes off and headlights go off and  now car won`t start. it it the alternator?

Possibly? Check battery voltage and clean/tighten your battery connections. If battery voltage is low and or bad connections are found fully charge the battery then try to start car. If it then starts check alternator output voltage. It should be around 14.5 volts. If in USA most auto zone parts stores will check and charge your battery for free. Normally takes them about 45 minutes to fully charge one.

Sounds like you had a massive power outage. First place to start would be to have the battery checked. If the battery is dead and you replace it, you still need to check the alternator to make sure that didn't cause the mess in the first place
