Where is the Canister purge solenoid

Asked by Shadypark Jan 19, 2019 at 03:13 AM about the 2001 Pontiac Sunfire SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 2.2L pontiac sunfire with check engine light (
code P0446) was told that its most likely canister purge
solenoid by autozone. Just wondering where the canister
purge solenoid is located. I checked by the gas tank its not
there. Did read thats its between the firewall and the engine
but i have no idea if its true.

I just worked on 2002 2.2L Sunfire last weekend. It's on the backside of the engine, under the intake manifold and above the oil filter. There is not enough room to get hands on the valve from above the engine. May have to try reaching it from underside, just like changing the oil filter.

Here's what the valve looks like. It's mounted upside down on the engine.
