My 1998 firebird wants to stall out on me sometimes and not start for a while until it cools down. I'm thinking its the fuel pump or sender/sensor. My mechanic tells me I need to drop the rear end to replace it. Is there an easier way?
if the fuel pump is in the gas tank, then it can be hard to get to- but maybe there is an access port through the trunk floor- pull up the carpet and look for one- one could only hope- make sure the problem is not somethin' else before you start droppin' yer rear end- maybe the mechanic just wants to get in your pants
There is no access port through the trunk floor, but you can make one. I have made 3 of them for my 98 TA, dad's 2000 Firebird and my sisters 96 Firebird. Plenty of tutorials on internet - look for "Trap-door 98 Firebird/Camaro". You need to look for what kind of gas tank you have - metal or plastic, because then the fuel pump location is different.
