My 1998 Pontiac trans am

Asked by Iconic Jun 13, 2018 at 12:02 AM about the 1998 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I was reversing back into my parking spot and
after I get off the throttle it shut off by itself. I
turned it back on but it seemed like it was
struggling to turn on. I know the car burns oil fast
but it shouldn't be shutting off should it? Around
end of April beginning of May I went home to CO to
visit my family,  before I went  home my car died
while I was driving home and it kept shutting off
repeatedly.  Then for a little bit it was knocking.
The knocking went down when I added oil.But it
was still there. I haven't heard it knock since ive
been back. Was wondering if you tell me you're
best guess because when I try reasearching the
problem I can't find anything. Can anyone help me

The oil issue is serious if you are truly burning oil. Keep the level up religiously until you fix it or you may seize your engine. Now, if it is burning that much oil, you may be seeing the effect of too much oil mixing with your fuel in one or more cylinders and causing the misfire and stalling problem.

You might want to entertain the possibility of getting a compression test done on the engine cuz that might tell you your engines toast before you spend any money on it?
