Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Just bought a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire SE for my daughter, and have noticed that there is a rattle in the rear of the car. It seems to be more middle rahter than on either side but i could be wrong.Through it was just the spare tire loose in the trunk, so removed that and the jack, trunk is now empty and it persists. It only rattles when driving, goes away at idle. its a constant rattle doesnt increase or decrease with speeds. Any ideas?

Check the rear exhaust hanger. The car has only 1 and it wraps the muffler.
check the trunk lid stuff to make sure nothing is loose there too.
trunk lid seems fine, will have to get under the car this afternoon and check the muffler. Its constant while driving, no sound at all when at idle. thought it might be rear struts, but its rides just fine, not rough at all even over bumps..
another thing you may want to check is the shield for the catalytic converter- they can come loose too.
