1996 Firebird base model 3.8 V8 auto. No power at starter

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Everything electrical works on the car, (plenty of power) I do not have
power to the starter solenoid "exciter wire" I have 12 volts from the battery
and the ground is good. I have replaced the ignition switch, and the neutral
safety switch, but I cannot get power to the solenoid. I have had a person
tell me about a starter relay, but I cannot find anything that refers to a
starter relay on this car. 2 different fuse boxes and nothing labeled starter
relay. I have checked all fuses and fusible links from the battery to the
electrical system and they all check out fine.

It could just be a bad connection at the battery, Clean the battery terminals and the other positive side connections.

Also if i use a jumper from the 12v cable on the solenoid to the "exciter wire". It will start and run just fine!
not quite sure what the exciter wire is but maybe that's something you have to replace unless it's an intrical electronic situation?

Well i found the fix, the VATS system has a broken wire in the steering column so I bypassed the VATS system.
That's great happy Thanksgiving I'm glad you got it fixed because these bird cars are awesome I love my 2002 Firebird the last of the breed!
