over senitive sensor or you braked hard enough to cause you car to "submarine" under the bumper and hit/triggered the air bag sensor

I have a 1996 Sunfire SE Coupe and there was a recall on the airbag sensor around 1998 or so because it was too sensitive. If you bought the car after about '98, I would take it to a GM dealer and have them look and see if the sensor has been fixed.
