no they did not, they were offered with a 3.1 liter v6
yes, a few came with the 2.8 tuneport, but pontiac quickley discovered it was to small a engine for the car and went to the 3.1 V6.their were less than 200 with the 2.8 made.
i would like to know where you got your information from. GM discontinued the 2.8 (which was mpfi) for use in the f-body in 1989. The intakes are easily swappable between the 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4. The vin can be used to ensure the right engine is in the car.
actually jus to let you know its not mpfi it is tpi clearly states on intake i own a 87 firebird with the 2.8 TPI has the exact same style intake and air box and injection set up as my 86 5.0 TPI... and they did come with the 2.8 at the factory for 92 because i ran in to many problems tryin to find parts for my old 91 iroc that had a 2.8 all junk yards had the 5.0 5.7 or the 3.1 but for a short time they did make them with a 2.8 TPI
I am impressed Sean, because 1990 was the last year for the rwd 2.8 liter. I am also impressed because GM does not have an engine code for a 2.8 in 91 or 92, and because not one single auto parts store has any info on a 2.8 in the 91 and 92 models. I do appreciate your info and I will make sure I research my answers before I answer next time. Thank you for your input.
I have a 1992 Firebird convertable that came with a 3.1
and Sean i am also impressed bc the IROC Z28 (International Race Of Champions) was a step up from the Z28 and only the 5.7L engine was available in the IROC. the Z28 was an RPO code that meant you wanted the power option. one more thing the IROC was only available from 85-90, there is no 91 IROC-Z. :)
