Throwing codes

Asked by Murglad Mar 26, 2019 at 12:10 PM about the 1992 Pontiac Firebird Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1992 pontiac firebird 3.1 v6 is throwing code
33,42, and 12(this ones good). It was sitting for 5
years and after a new battery and distributor it
cranks and idles (even though timing is at 11°N). I
changed the oil and fuel filter and it was sounding
pretty good. The problem is when i am driving
giving it gas will do nothing and either completely
stall or kick back on and then off again multiple
times within a few seconds eventually stalling out.
After trying to crank the car several times after a
stall ocassionally i will set off the VATS. Any ideas?

Code 33 is map sensor, note the text, it gives some text info for troubleshooting. Check the sensor wiring circuits and vacuum. Are you using fresh gas? fuel pressure, 40--47 psi, key on engine off. The code 42 is electronic spark timing, If you want troubleshooting info for that, I'll post it. Let us know.
