No Compression
Asked by Artcotte Jun 02, 2015 at 09:50 PM about the 2004 Porsche Cayenne S AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Car started running rough out of the blue one day, almost stalled and after I got it home wouldnt restart. Mechanic checked on cyclinder and no compression. He doesnt think it is the head gasket but rather either the valve or timing chain. I can't find anyone that wants to take this on other than the dealer and can't get even a rough estimate of the cost.

These engine blocks where a weak link for the cayenne. This might be worth reading: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/37770-engine-knocking-noise-cayenne-s-45/

Which cylinder has no compression? All or 1? If only one, it's probably a valve. If all, it's the chain. Either one is not good, but if you can isolate it to one cylinder in one bank, then you can pull the head with the bad valve and have it fixed. If the chain is gone, major expense, with the probably of having to replace the engine. Good Luck!
