it is most likely a new trans is it 62000 for 12 yr. is low but that trans will go to 200000
That's not high miles- if it has been maintained thoroughly- ask for receipts- if there are none, it MIGHT suggest that the owner is uncaring, and drove the car like a bat out of hell (Der Fledermaus)- just be careful because a used, thrashed Porsche is NOT something you wanna get stuck with-
62k on a 12 year old car, that's certainly no too high. Car will last forever if you care for it. Have it inspected by a shop that works on older Porsches, stealerships will want you to get rid of it.
Service records and Porsche PPI ( pre purchase inspection ) are key unless they are giving the car away. I think porsche charges around $150 to do a complete inspection and will give you list of anything that needs attention. This can also be a bargining chip if you do decide to buy the car. Overall the Boxster is a great car with its biggest issue being the IMS bearing which can cause sever motor damage if it fails with the car running, google IMS bearing so you know exactly what ti ask about and look for on the service records.
I've done clutch jobs on Boxters with less than 60k. Michael is right, the IMS bearing is always on your mind. Do a clutch and the bearing at the same time for true piece of mind. You're in there anyway, so also have the rear main seal replaced also. The car is really easy to work on compared to the 911, I recommend a shop that does race conversions for Porsches, they won't rip you off like stealerships.
