Even with a good engine, the car is not worth much more than 10K. Is the block cracked or is it just blown head gaskets?
Around the Bay area, very nice 2001 Boxsters sell for up to $10k, cars needing work won't get $5k. With a bad engine, only a DIY mechanic will buy it, and it would need to cost a lot less than the price of a good one, and the total price of car plus replacement engine should be a lot less than $10k. As a comparison, I just bought a black manual transmission 2001 911 in great condition for $9k, needing just minor work on the ABS system, window regulators and blower motor relay. Cost me about $500 to fix it.
Fix the car, and then you might get a better price for it, it not worth more than $4-5k as is. Shop that did my rebuild has a Boxster S engine for sale on Ebay for $6500:http://www.ebay.com/itm/331449401035?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 I highly recommend these guys.
Get a chevy lsx v8 conversion kit and it will be as reliable as a hammer and will smoke just about any unsuspecting car you may roll up on ( on a closed road ). Other wise its worth $3500 here in florida.
